A fixed grinding program usually leads to good working practices .
For example , the drill bit can be inspected and then reground after a certain number of holes or at the end of the shift . Grinding too early is not necessarily uneconomical , because there are fewer carbides that need to be ground off . It is better to re-grind rather than reduce productivity due to damage .
Correct grinding greatly increases the service life of the drill . But just as importantly , it also improves the performance of the entire drilling operation , especially the straightness of the hole .
